About the Class
Asa Siegel is a top audiobook VO who works consistently voicing projects for major publishing houses in the industry. Titles include: Spain by Michael Reid, Pathways to Peace by Napoleon Hill, and Reverse Innovation by Vijay Govindarajan and Chris Trimble, amongst many others. Asa believes that everyone’s distinct voice can shine when attuning to the “vibe” of the book they’re voicing and mastering some foundational technical skills for the genre.
Audiobook recording is one of the most unique niches in the VO industry. Those who truly master its idiosyncrasies position themselves to benefit from the reliability and consistency of steady recording workflows. Over four weeks, you will be empowered with everything you need to know about what it takes to deliver in voicing audiobooks. We’ll start with identifying the humanity in your reading voice as the core of connecting with your audience. Then we’ll cover a broad range of technical skills including reading past what you speak, vocal and pacing consistency and stamina, voice matching, character differentiation, creating intrigue and interest, and bringing distinction to quoted content. You’ll practice recording like a pro with multiple sessions focused on home studio skills – an absolute must for audiobook narration – including sound level consistency, making edits in the moment, and preparing files for submission. We’ll cover insider tips and tricks for pronunciation of words and names, and you will get time in each session to work on your narration skills and get personalized coaching. Throughout the course, Asa will share insights into personal experiences working with the genre and answer all your questions. At the culmination of this course, you will know exactly what audiobook VO requires and get an assessment on next steps to create your demo and approach audiobook publishers to start booking work.
Students for this class are required to bring two books to the first class, one fiction, and one non-fiction. Book selections should be ones that you feel your voice is great for.
